With spring in full swing and summer just around the corner, now is a great time to re-energize your interior and exterior spaces. A few simple spruce-ups will give you the refresh you want for maximum enjoyment of your home this spring and summer.
Spruce-Up #1: Add color and texture with throw pillows.
Throw pillows are an inexpensive way to bring summer colors into any room of your home, including living rooms, bedrooms, and even home offices. If you’re not sure which colors or patterns to try, just have fun experimenting with different patterns and color combinations to create a fresh, summery look. Are your walls or furniture pieces neutral, like white, beige or gray? Try adding pillows in a vibrant yellow, orange, or teal to give your room an instant burst of color. To save money, you can keep your existing pillows and just add new covers, which also makes it easy to switch back and forth. Don’t worry about everything matching—just go with colors that energize you.
Spruce-Up #2: Lighten up your bedding.
Spring and summer are great times to change your comforter to a lighter, brighter color. This is easy to do if you use a duvet cover that you can switch out seasonally. Even if you don’t have a spare comforter or duvet cover, you can brighten up any bedding set by adding a decorative quilt or coverlet at the foot of your bed, folded horizontally. Coordinate with matching pillow shams in standard or euro size for even more impact.
Spruce-Up #3: Brighten up your artwork.
Yes, that oversized bridge-to-nowhere-on-a-cloudy-day painting is kind of cool, but it’s also a little drab if your goal is to make your home feel vibrant this season. Try swapping out your less-colorful artwork for something with a little more pizzazz. Before you go out shopping, first take a spin around your house because you may have the perfect piece hiding somewhere, just waiting for you to move it to a more prominent place. For extra fun, visit your local craft store, buy a canvas and your favorite paint colors and create your own masterpiece!
Spruce-Up #4: Clean your windows – inside and out.
The whole world seems like a brighter place when you’re looking at it through sparkly clean windows. Not only will you get more light indoors once your windows are super clean (inside and out), but also, you’ll feel more like going outside to enjoy your outdoor living space. That leads us to our final spruce-up…
Spruce-Up #5: Revive your outdoor living space.
If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to pull the covers off the patio furniture, clean off the deck, and get your outdoor living spaces ready for summer. Try adding a big outdoor rug to make your space more inviting and to make it more comfy if you choose to go shoe-free. Layer in colorful throw pillows to make your seating more comfortable. And don’t forget lighting—a few string lights or lanterns will make you want to spend endless summer nights enjoying the great outdoors.
